Baseline monitoring of groundwater properties in the Beetaloo Sub-basin
This project will enable a better understanding of the geochemical properties, recharge rates and recharge mechanisms of groundwater.
The study involved sampled and analysed groundwater in the Beetaloo sub-Basin to create a set of baseline data against which any potential impacts caused by the gas industry can be measured. It provides information about the baseline geochemistry and groundwater flow characteristics in the Cambrian Limestone Aquifer.

Baseline assessment of groundwater characteristics in the Beetaloo Sub-basin, NT: Geochemistry Analysis
This report provides results of a groundwater sampling program carried out in October – November 2018 and a comparison with a 2017 CSIRO survey. It also enables comparison with datasets supplied by three onshore gas explorers and Northern Territory Government. It will help to establish appropriate monitoring tools for use by the NT Government in assessing potential impacts that the Shale gas industry may have on water resources in the Northern Territory.
Environmental Tracers in the Beetaloo Basin
This report describes environmental tracer analysis of groundwater samples, collected from 25 water bores intersecting the Cambrian Limestone Aquifer in the Beetaloo Sub-basin in the Northern Territory. This report supplements and supports the findings of the previously released report detailing geochemical analysis of the baseline groundwater sampling program carried out in October – November 2018. Together, results of these studies improve understanding of the Cambrian Limestone Aquifer in onshore gas exploration permit areas.
