The project reviews regulatory frameworks in relation to principles derived from international literature and considers social concerns with regard to decommissioning of wells and well pad infrastructure.
The project provides recommendations for an integrated approach to improving the social, economic and environmental effectiveness of decommissioning of wells and well pads.

The project combined geological, technical and social science expertise to study effective and socially acceptable decommissioning processes for CSG wells in Queensland and New South Wales.
The project:
- reviewed regulatory frameworks,
- explored the characteristics of successful decommissioning from different viewpoints, and
- developed policy options for government, industry and local stakeholders
