New projects underway in Queensland and the Northern territory

GISERA’s Research Advisory Committees have approved three new CSIRO research projects in the Northern Territory and one new project in Queensland.

In the Northern Territory, a Review of potential environmental impacts of shale gas related wastewater disposal options will assess wastewater management and treatment options, including associated waste disposal requirements, and their potential for environmental harm.

The Groundwater connectivity in the eastern extension of the Beetaloo Sub-basin project will investigate potential connectivity of groundwater systems between the Cambrian Limestone Aquifer and the surface in the eastern extension of the Beetaloo Sub-basin.

And the Pathways for Indigenous socio-economic development in the Beetaloo region of the Northern Territory project will explore how economic opportunities from shale gas and other projects (agriculture, renewables, etc) can support the aspirations, values, and priorities of Aboriginal communities. This research is being conducted in conjunction with The University of Queensland.

Meanwhile in the Sunshine State the Cement degradation processes in coal seam gas wells in Queensland will investigate the potential for cement degradation and related processes in coal seam gas wells in the Surat Basin.
