Optimal spatial design of groundwater monitoring networks will improve confidence around predicted groundwater impacts, and help minimise the risk of environmental damage.

The focus of the study was scientific analysis of predictive modelling results undertaken in a probabilistic framework to provide practical insights for optimising future monitoring in the Pilliga forest region under a generic coal seam gas (CSG) development scenario. While the utility of a co-ordinated network of bores in reducing prediction uncertainty is demonstrated, the study does not recommend any single monitoring network design or density of monitoring bores for the study area.

Review of groundwater monitoring and opportunities for optimal network design for the Narrabri Gas Project area PDF 1 MB

This report provides a brief overview of groundwater monitoring requirements in CSG development areas and existing groundwater monitoring in the Narrabri Gas Project area. The report also evaluates the opportunity for data-worth analysis and optimal design of monitoring network as underpinned by the modelling and uncertainty analysis of potential groundwater impacts undertaken through the Bioregional Assessments Programme and through GISERA research studies.
